Prendergast Library will host its first Jim Roselle Read-A-Thon from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 4, as a fundraiser for the institution.

To volunteer to read at the Read-A-Thon, call trustee and event chairperson Joni Blackman at 969-1946.

“The library is a safe haven for many young families in our city. It is a place for learning, socializing, relaxing and reading. We need to keep it vital and strong, and that is the purpose of this event,” said R. Thomas Rankin, president of the library’s Board of Trustees.

The inaugural Read-A-Thon honors the late Jim Roselle, a well-known area radio personality for decades. He was also a longtime library board member who used to say a library card was the most valuable card in anyone’s wallet.  Read more…

April 15 is Jim Roselle Day on WJTN and at Lucille Ball Little Theater

Jim Roselle enjoyed reminding people that his birthday was also tax day across the USA.

This year marks the 103rd anniversary of the income tax and April 15 would have been Jim Roselle’s 90th birthday… not quite as old as tax day itself, but far more beloved by all who knew him. His passing on March 23, 2016 – mere weeks before beginning his 10th decade – may have capped a brilliant career for this NY Broadcasters Hall of Famer, but his legacy is sure to continue for generations to come.

Jim Roselle fans and friends are being invited to tune in to WJTN-Jamestown, 1240 AM, on Friday, April 15 between 9:00 a.m. and noon for a special Jim Roselle Day on-air radio celebration. For Jim’s long-time listeners, naturally, that will only mean turning up the volume a notch, as their radios have already been locked onto WJTN for a good many years.

WJTN is the place where Jim and his ever-present microphone welcomed radio guests to his broadcast table for 61 years on the Jim Roselle Show. And for the last 41 years, serving as the unofficial but indispensable “Mayor of Bestor Plaza” at Chautauqua Institution, Jim invited world leaders, authors, celebrities and even astronauts into homes, cars and workplaces across Western New York, and more recently, around the world on Internet radio.

Jim Roselle Day will continue on Friday evening at the Lucille Ball Little Theater on opening night of the hilarious and fast-paced farce, “Nana’s Naughty Nickers”. To honor Jim’s longstanding support for LBLT and its great contribution to the life of the arts in Jamestown, copies of his recently published memoir, “The Best Times of My Life” will be available for purchase in the theater lobby before the show and during Intermission. Half of all proceeds will be contributed to the Lucille Ball Little Theater in Jim Roselle’s honor.

  1. Update…1st Annual Jim Roselle Read-A-Thon at the James Prendergast Library…Thanks to all who read at the June 4th, 2016 Jim Roselle Read-A-Thon! Over $4,000.00 was raised in support of one of Jim’s favorite places…the Library! Thanks also to Kathy Roselle for “kicking off” the Read-A-Thon, along with Tom Rankin (Library Board President) Joni Blackman (Library Vice President) Tina Scott (Library Director) along with the entire library staff who made the event a success. A special note of thanks to Walt Pickut, co-author of Jim Roselle: The BEST Times of My Life! Walt read the foreward by Mark Russell, along with the first chapter telling us all about Jim’s mother and father. Also to Nancy Pickut, who read to the eager children attending the story of “Little Bird”. All in all, a total success!

  2. He was a great man and friend to all that knew him. And a great ambassador for the Jamestown Area.
God bless and keep you Jim and thanks for all the great years of entertainment and the memories.

  3. I had a lot of respect for this man. He always remembered my name even after the first meeting. Which to me is astounding because I am nothing compared to the many many people he encountered in his epic life. RIP my friend

  4. I heard Mr. Roselle speak at the Bemus Point Library and purchased his autographed book. My, what a fabulous and exciting life personally and worldly. My mother was a huge fan and always had her radios dialed in to Mr. Roselle’s radio program. I loved reading the interviews in the book also. There are SO many wonderful people on this little planet. I look forward to hearing more from Mr. Roselle soon, be it on WJTN or at Chautauqua this coming season. Mr. Pickut also did a fabulous job helping to write the book. Many thanks!

  5. Dear Mr. Roselle, I am assistant to Katharyne Ryan, who asked me to contact you and Mr. Pickut, last week. I have just located your site. K contacted Ms. Linda Pelligrina, host of AM Buffalo, a Buffalo talk show, to discuss an interview with you, (or with you and Mr. Pickut) to feature your book. After speaking with Katharyne, Linda expressed interest, and asked her to send a copy of your book. K. does not have a copy. She asked me to contact you and Mr. P. If you are interested, you or Mr. P can send the book to Linda Pelligrino yourselves. (Linda Pelligrino, AM Buffalo, 7 Broadcast Plaza, Buffalo, NY 14202. K left a fone message for Mr. Pickut. But rarely uses the internet due to past eye injury. K also mentioned to Mr. P that a friend of hers books talent for CBS talk shows. That friend is also interested. Shortly after graduating from law school, K interned for a talent agency in LA, as an assistant to a manager/agent for script writers, She is not an agent, however she contacted talk shows in your area as a favor to Mr. P. Should you prefer not to promote your book via the talk show venue, please advise. Sincerely, Heather, Assistant to Katharyne Jacobus Ryan.
K also contacted a talk show in Erie about us book. No reply from that source at this writing. good lluck with your book. K tells us that she was impressed when you discussed your love for your parents at the Chatauqua Inst. presentation. That and her friendship with Mr. P are her reason for her wish to assist with the promotion of your book.

  6. Thank you & Happy New Year!
